If your business has a T1 line, it means that a provider has brought a fiber optic line into your office (although a T1 line might also come in on copper). A T1 line can carry 24 digitized voice channels, or it can carry data at a rate of 1.544 megabits per second. If the T1 line is being used for telephone conversations, it plugs into the office’s phone system. If it is carrying data it plugs into the network’s router.
A T1 line can carry about 192,000 bytes per second — roughly 60 times more data than a normal lines. It is also extremely reliable — much more reliable than an analog modem. Depending on what users are doing, a T1 line can generally handle quite a few people. For general browsing, hundreds of users are easily able to share a T1 line comfortably. If they are all downloading MP3 files or video files simultaneously it could present a problem, but that is generally uncommon in a business setting.
A T1 line can be very cost effective depending on who provides it and where it goes. The other end of the T1 line needs to be connected to a web server, and the total cost is a combination of the fee the phone company charges and the fee the ISP charges.
If your organization or business has more than 5 people in the office you may want to consider the benefits of a T1 line. Please call one of our specialist at 1-800-722-5115 today to see if a T1 line is right for you.

Trim the cost and gain the reach using the newest technology. There’s no need to deploy more fiber when using multiplexers to combine multiple T-1 lines over a single fiber optic link. New fiber optic modems can extend the range of T-1 signals over multimode or single-mode fiber up to 40 miles.
T-1s were originally 24 voice channels. Using voice compression, up to 10 voice calls can be compressed into a single standard T-1 64 kb/s voice connection. Multi-protocol switching is now allowing a single T-1 to transmit two full PBX lines and 1 Mb/s of data. Ask your Microtech-Tel sales rep about the media over which T-1 can be delivered.
Demand for T-1s appears to be unstoppable. Advances in multiplexing, voice compression and grooming platforms are key technologies driving greater T-1 bandwidth usage. T-1s are 1.544 Mb/s compared to T-3s (45 Mb/s). Newer access hardware can improve the T-1 price/performance ratio. Ask your Microtech-Tel sales rep for details.
